Since joining AFG 25 years ago as a Mental Health Nurse at one of our Independent Hospitals in Lancashire, Carol has progressed through several roles including Clinical Team Leader and Head of Operations, where she helped AFG to grow and develop new patient pathways. Carol is now Registered Manager at one of our mental health hospitals in Warrington.
Talking about why she loves working in mental health, Carol said: “No two days are the same. You get to meet some extraordinary people and help them on their journey. Joining AFG’s mental health team is the best thing I did!”
Carol’s role is multi-faceted and involves managing a team of nurses and support workers which is around 40 people. Due to her background as a General Nurse, Carol is also our Lead for Physical Health for AFG. She holds a monthly physical health forum for our colleagues where they can discuss policy requirements, physical health issues and find out how to access further support.
Carol says the thing she loves most about working for AFG is how we offer person-centered support: “Recognising that everybody has unique needs is extremely important, so we can support our patients to achieve positive outcomes, regain control of their illness and life, so they can move on and live fulfilled lives.”
Since joining AFG Carol has taken advantage of many professional development opportunities which have enabled her to upskill and progress in her career. Carol has completed a Diploma and Degree in Psychosocial Intervention, as well as qualifications in rehabilitation, leadership and management.
Carol has also been involved in succession planning for our operational workforce, helping to ensure we can provide high quality care on a consistent basis. Two of Carol’s former Deputy Managers have gone on to take up senior positions as Registered Manager. She is extremely proud to have had the chance to support these colleagues in their career journeys.
At a time when we are growing and expanding our workforce, Carol says: “If you want to be part of an organisation that is forward-thinking and truly recognises and rewards it’s people, then come and join AFG.”
