Celebrating Susan Cahill: 30 Years of Dedication to Social Care

February 4, 2025

At AFG, our amazing frontline colleagues are at the heart of everything we do. In October 2024, Susan Cahill celebrated an incredible milestone – 30 years of dedicated service as an AFG Support Worker. Her journey with us is a testament to her passion, dedication and commitment to delivering positive outcomes for the people we support.

A Lifelong Passion for Social Care

Susan, now 50, has devoted most of her adult life to AFG, joining our organisation when she was just 20 years old. Over three decades, she has witnessed significant transformations within AFG. From enhanced staff training to improved pay and an increased focus on providing high quality person-centred support, Susan has been proud to see the organization grow and evolve. “The improvements over the years have been remarkable,” she shares. “It’s inspiring to see how far we’ve come.”

Making a Positive Difference

Working in AFG’s Learning Disability division, Susan’s days are as rewarding as they are demanding. Her typical shifts span 13 hours, during which she provides essential support, including assisting individuals with medication, meals, and daily routines. She helps them get dressed, ready for the day, and engage in community activities.

Susan takes immense pride in the relationships she has built over the years. “I genuinely care about the people I support,” she says. “Seeing their progress, no matter how small, is incredibly fulfilling.” One of her proudest moments was helping an individual transition from struggling to use cutlery to eating with confidence and enjoyment.

Looking to the Future of Social Care

As Susan reflects on her journey, she remains a strong advocate for AFG’s mission and the broader social care sector. She believes in the importance of greater recognition for the incredible work done by organisations like AFG. “We need better government funding to continue delivering the amazing work we do,” she emphasises. “It’s time for the government to do the right thing.”

As we celebrate Susan’s 30 years at AFG, we are reminded of the extraordinary impact that our colleagues have on the lives of others. Thank you, Susan, for being an inspiration to us all.
