North West charity Alternative Futures Group (AFG) has welcomed the government’s announcement of a multi-million pound investment in special schools.

Today’s announcement outlines funding for four new sites across the country and also includes the opening of a new special school in Bury.

For 30 years AFG has provided specialised, person-centred support for adults with a learning disability who may also have additional needs – whether that’s in the comfort of their own home or in specialist accommodation

Kirsty Murphy, CPO and COO for AFG said: “Although this funding is long overdue AFG is happy to support the announcement – particularly the investment locally.

“AFG provides the highest quality services to help adults with learning difficulties across the region and we were very aware of the need for more special school provision.

“We welcome the government’s funding announcement and hope that it will release more funding for adults and children with learning difficulties throughout the North West.”
