Alternative Futures Group signs the Age-friendly Employer Pledge

April 7, 2025

Alternative Futures Group have officially signed the Age-friendly Employer Pledge. This pledge is a nationwide programme for UK employers who recognise the importance and value of older workers.

We’re incredibly proud that over 30% of our workforce are aged 55 and over and acknowledge the incredible contribution each of our amazing colleagues makes. We also received fantastic feedback from this population of colleagues in our survey last year with highlights including:

  • 92% of AFG colleagues over 55 believes: People here are treated fairly regardless of their sexual orientation.
  • 90% of AFG colleagues over 55 believes: People here are treated fairly regardless of their race.
  • 92% of AFG colleagues over 55 believes: People here are treated fairly regardless of their gender.
  • 92% of AFG colleagues over 55 believes: People here are given a lot of responsibility.
  • 92% of AFG colleagues over 55 believes: I know where I can get the information I need to do my job.

By signing the pledge, we are demonstrating our support to tackling ageism in the workplace and committing to taking at least one action a year to improve the way we recruit, manage and support older workers. Under the initiative, we will also have a senior sponsor for age-inclusion within our workforce to ensure that age is specifically named within Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policies. We can also now announce that Lyndsay Beal, AFG’s Head of Operations for Learning Disability, will be taking up the role of senior sponsor.

Over 100 employers have already signed the pledge, including Virgin Hotels, Osborne Clarke and the Department for Work and Pensions. We are proud to be joining other leading organisations in taking action to help older workers flourish in the workplace.
