Alternative Futures Group has strengthened its executive leadership team as part of its ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, consistent support and positively impacting more lives.
Following a review of the charity’s leadership structure in line with its 2024–2027 strategy, two new Chief Officer roles have been created to provide clearer accountability, stronger operational leadership and an enhanced focus on quality and risk.
New Chief Operating Officer / Deputy Chief Executive

We’re pleased to announce that Kirsty Murphy has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer / Deputy Chief Executive.
Kirsty currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for Learning Disability services and Chief People Officer, and brings extensive operational experience, values-led leadership, and a strong commitment to improving outcomes for the people we support and our colleagues. The new role provides unified operational leadership across all front-line services and additional deputy support to the Chief Executive and Board of Trustees.
Kirsty was appointed following a panel interview process led by Brian Walsh, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
New Chief Quality & Risk Officer

Alongside this, we’re also pleased to confirm the appointment of Chris Hughes as Chief Quality & Risk Officer.
This newly created role brings together responsibility for quality compliance, improvement and assurance, alongside corporate and regulatory compliance and risk. It strengthens AFG’s focus on safety, quality, governance and continuous improvement across all services.
Looking Ahead
These appointments form part of a wider strengthening of AFG’s Chief Officer structure, designed to support delivery of the organisation’s strategic ambitions, drive quality improvement, and ensure consistent, high-quality support across all services.
We congratulate Kirsty and Chris on their appointments and look forward to the positive impact they will make as part of AFG’s executive leadership team.
