Jenny’s story – supported to make a new fresh start
Jenny* is a woman in her 50s with a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia and cognitive decline, a condition where someone has minor problems with their mental abilities such as memory or thinking.

Helen’s Story – supported to take the trip of a lifetime
Helen* is a woman in her 50s who lives in one of our supported living services commissioned by Knowsley Council. When she first arrived with AFG she faced significant challenges with her physical and mental health. She engaged in a range of compulsive behaviours and struggled with symptoms due to her type two diabetes, asthma and COPD.
With support, Helen is now able to manage her conditions and was able to go on a holiday overseas, something she had always dreamed of.

Tilly’s Story: From Support Worker to Director of Operations
Tilly’s journey with Alternative Futures Group is a fantastic example of how we offer opportunities for staff to build their skills and experience and progress into senior roles. Joining us as a Support Worker, Tilly is now heading up our learning disability division as Director of Operations.
Zahra’s story – supported with psychosis to achieve independence
Zahra* is a young woman in her 20s who was admitted to one of our independent hospitals in early 2023 for treatment of psychosis. She is now pursuing further education and looking towards the future.

Freddie’s story – a completely different life after years in institutions
Freddie* has been supported by Alternative Futures Group for 14 years. He has an acquired brain injury and a learning disability. Through hard work and dedication, Freddie has now had a significant reduction in support, engages in activities regularly and has increased independence.

Ian’s Story – volunteering in the community and becoming a Learning Disability Trainer
Ian, 40, lives in one of our Learning Disability services commissioned by Wirral Council. He has been supported by AFG since he was 18 and has made huge progress during this time.
Kaley’s Story: From Support Worker to Regional Manager
Starting out as a Support Worker at just 18 years old, Kaley now leads learning disability services across Lancaster and West Lancashire as one of our Regional Managers.
