Celebrating International Women’s Day at AFG

March 5, 2025

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the incredible achievements of women across the world. At AFG, we’re proud to champion the amazing women across our teams who inspire, lead, and make a positive difference every day.

Hear from some of our inspiring female colleagues on what International Women’s Day means to them:

Why International Women’s Day Matters

We asked Emma Worrall, AFG’s Head of Clinical Support, why IWD is still so important today. She shared:

“Even in 2025, gender equality isn’t the norm in many parts of the world. Women still face challenges at work, at home, and in society. I’ve been lucky to work in healthcare, where fairness is built into pay scales, but I know not every woman has that experience. That’s why I’m passionate about supporting equality and celebrating the brilliant women at AFG – especially those in leadership who help our teams grow and thrive every day.”

This Year’s Theme: ‘Accelerate Action’

Emma Swift, Registered Manager at one of our Independent Hospitals, said: “To me, ‘Accelerate Action’ is about making decisive moves and taking tangible steps to drive gender equality, amplify women’s voices, and remove barriers to success. We’re proud to have an inclusive working environment at AFG, enabling our female colleagues to achieve amazing things.”

Inspirational Women: A Personal Story

AFG’s Head of Operations, Kaley Kenyon, shared her thoughts about a woman who has inspired her the most. She told us:

“Without a doubt, my mum has inspired me the most. She’s the strongest, kindest, and most supportive person I know. She taught me to be brave but compassionate, to stand up for myself with kindness, and to always believe in myself. No matter what challenges life throws at her, she stays positive and keeps smiling. She’s taught me confidence, resilience, and the importance of laughter. I’m so grateful for everything she’s done for me.”

Advice for Younger Women

Paula Harrison, AFG’s Learning Partner, had some inspiring words for young women chasing their dreams:

“Take risks, believe in yourself and just go for it! You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

Paula also shared her positive experience of working for AFG:

“At AFG, gender equality isn’t just talked about – it’s truly valued. Everyone has the chance to grow, develop, and be heard. I feel fully supported in balancing work and life, and I love having the opportunity to flourish in my role.”

AFG’s International Women’s Day Coffee Morning

To celebrate IWD, we were delighted to host a virtual coffee morning for our colleagues at AFG. This event provided a chance to come together, reflect on the achievements of women, and discuss this year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action.’

We believe in celebrating our colleagues’ dedication and commitment to making a positive difference. We’re incredibly proud to be recognised as a Great Place To Work®, and this wouldn’t be possible without the passion and hard work of our amazing colleagues.

During the coffee morning, we explored the barriers women have faced, the progress made with regards to gender equality, and the inspiring success stories of female colleagues within AFG. We are incredibly proud of their fantastic achievements and the positive difference they make.

Championing Women Every Day

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on how far we’ve come and look ahead to what’s still to be done. At AFG, we’re proud to be part of the journey, empowering, supporting, and celebrating women – not just today, but every single day.
